Hello members!! How did it become the middle of December already??? I was away on a cruise from 19 Nov – 1 Dec, and came back very relaxed. Then I realized I only had 2 weeks to prepare before leaving to have Christmas with family! I have managed to get it all done, although this message was pushed aside until now. So this will be my message for 1 Dec AND 1 Jan together.
I wish all of you a wonderful holiday season however you celebrate. Best wishes for the coming New Year as well.
As always, please send me an email to let me know if you have questions, or suggestions, or if there is something you want addressed in this message. RCL632OrleansPresident@gmail.com
The final numbers for the District G Fall Convention from 20-22 October 2023, and the branch saw an increase of $8700 to our account. This is a very welcome boost and allowed us to pay a couple of bills that were on hold.
The Poppy Campaign was a HUGE success. Congratulations to our Poppy Chair and his team for their hard work to raise almost $150,000.00!!!
Thanks to the hard work of our new Facility Rental Agent and her Assistant, our hall is seeing an increase in bookings. Since this is our main source of income, this is a very welcome change. If you are thinking about booking the hall for an event, I suggest that you book well in advance so that you aren’t disappointed!
The President’s Draw took place on 16 Dec after the final breakfast before the New Year. There were 5 cash prizes, lots of gift cards, and some extra donated prizes as well. All winners were either in attendance or have been called. Congratulations to everyone!
The annual Breakfast with Santa was held on 17 Dec and it was sold out very quickly! By all accounts, the children had a fabulous time!! So happy Santa could take the time to come down from the North Pole to visit with us.
The Legion is still looking for volunteers for the following positions:
Housing: We need someone who is handy with tools and available to do general repairs of things around the building (changing lightbulbs, minor plumbing, minor damage to walls, putting up items on walls, etc).
Entertainment/Special Events Committee: help plan Branch events. We would like to see our Branch putting on one major event each month (trivia, karaoke, special occasion event, etc) to get more people engaged and socializing. This could also be part of Fundraising Team tasks.
Fundraising Team: We still need 3-4 energetic and engaging people. We have a number of larger fundraising ideas that we have our sights on so that we can address some larger projects around the building. Please consider helping us improve our Legion by helping us raise much needed funds.
NEW YEAR’S LEVEE
I’m hosting a New Year’s Levee again this year. It will take place from 1100 to 1700 on 1 January in the Upper hall. There will be a light lunch of chili and buns, baked beans, cheese and crackers and pickles. Of course, there will also be moosemilk!! Hope you can make it!
We hoped to start the draws for this at the Levee, but unfortunately, we still have just over 100 numbers to be sold. Numbers are $30 each, and are good for all 24 draws. This is a fundraiser for the Point of Sale (POS) system in both upper and lower bars, which badly needs an update. Please share the information with your friends and colleagues as you do not have to be a Legion member to participate in the Club 200 event.
GENERAL MEETING REMINDER
All General Meetings are on Tuesday nights and start at 7:30pm. The doors open at 7:00pm, and close when the meeting starts. You need to show your Legion membership card to the Sgt-at-Arms at the door so that we can confirm we have a quorum. We need the members to attend these meetings and vote so that we can move forward with projects.
Dates for the next three General Meetings are:
23 Jan 2024 (THIS IS A DATE CHANGE!!),
16 Apr 2024 (this is the elections meeting), and
18 Jun 2024 (this is the first meeting with the new Executive).
