Election Broadcast
Hello Members!!
First off, I would like to say a huge THANK YOU for being a member of the Royal Canadian Legion, Branch 632, Orleans.
This is a special message to address our upcoming Elections. They will happen on April 15, 2025 starting at 7:30pm. The doors will be open by 7:00pm for registration to vote. You need to show your Legion ID to get in.
The world continues to evolve, and we need to evolve with it to remain viable and current. We have done a lot of work in the last 3 years to revitalize and professionalize our Branch so that we can continue to meet the Legion mission to serve Veterans, including serving military and RCMP members and their families, to promote Remembrance, and to serve our communities and our country. We need YOUR help to continue to tackle this never-ending quest.
Our Branch Executive consists of 7 Senior Executive (President, 3 Vice Presidents, Secretary, Treasurer, and Past President) and 10 Elected Officers on the Standing Elected Committee, as well as several required appointed Portfolio Chairs.
The following positions are open for the coming term:
* 1st Vice President (elected) (NOTE: this position is also the “shadow” for the President and will take over in the event the President can no longer do their duties)
* 2nd Vice President
* 3rd Vice President
* Bar Officer (appointed) (oversees the operations of the Bar, including doing monthly bar stock inventory)
Shadow Positions that are open:
These are people who are willing to “shadow” existing Portfolio Chairs, as part of succession planning for critical positions.
* Bar Officer
* Webmaster
* Public Relations
* Leadership & Development (specifically for completing Grant applications)
* Sgt-at-Arms
* Membership
* Sports
Criteria for the Executive Committee
* Prepared to serve in the Executive position for one year (1 Jun to 31 May).
* You do NOT need to be a Veteran.
* You MUST be a member in good standing at the Branch
Typically, one year as a Branch member is required to be eligible as an Elected Officer,and one year on the Executive Committee for a Vice President or President position. However, if a nominee does not meet the eligibility requirements, then a member can be appointed to a position, pending approval at a General Meeting. Nominations can be identified at any time up to and including at the April 15 General Meeting (Elections), by getting a nomination form filled out – you can find those in the upper lounge area across from the kitchen.
Other ways you can help:
The Senior Executive needs your help to accomplish the following strategic tasks. If you have expertise in any of the following areas, please let me know.
● Finish the 5-year Business Development Plan that has been under review for 3 years now.
● Creation of a Branch Standard Operating Procedures (SOP) Manual
● Creation of a detailed maintenance and repair plan for the Branch’s facilities and equipment.
● Be part of the Entertainment Committee (we really need 5-6 energetic and fun-loving people!)
● Be part of the Fundraising Committee to help execute the newly created Fundraising Plan.
If you are interested in getting involved on the Executive Committee, please come in to fill out a nomination form and give it to the Bar.
If you are interested in becoming a “shadow”, or with a specific task, please submit your name to Kate, the Branch Administrator, at RCL632Orleans@gmail.com or 613-830-9984. She will make sure your name is given to the appropriate person to get you started.
Thanks,
Wyn
