2024 Election and Platform Lift Project

Published On: March 28, 2024|Categories: Bulletin Board, President’s Monthly Message|

All Members:

A reminder that our next General Meeting will be held 16 Apr 2024. This is the elections meeting and there will also be a critical motion presented that needs to be voted on (see below). Please attend the meeting if you are able to, in order to ensure we have a quorum to accomplish these important items. A reminder that when attending a GM, you must check in with your membership card to be admitted, and the doors will close at 7:30pm to begin the meeting. No one is allowed in after the doors close.

For the elections, we still need nominations for members to fill the following:

Secretary and 3rd Vice – These two roles require a minimum of 1 year as a member before you can be nominated for them.

We also need 3 more people on the standing elected committee. New members are welcome for these positions.

You have until 9 Apr to fill out the nomination forms and drop them off at the branch.

PLATFORM LIFT PROJECT

The Platform Lift is almost 35 years old and parts are becoming increasingly difficult to find. The Executive would like to refurbish and modernize the lift so that it continues to allow accessibility to the upper floor for everyone who is unable to use the stairs. We have solicited estimates, and the best option is attached. This is a significant amount of money, so we are working on plans for raising the funds through donations, fundraising, and applying for grants, as well as using the amount of poppy fund money that was approved at the January GM.

Due to the cost of the project, we are required to get permission from the ON Comd Property Committee before we can move forward. The first part of this permission process is to receive the membership’s approval of the project through a motion presented at a GM. I encourage anyone with concerns or questions to attend the GM on 16 Apr where the project will be discussed in detail.

MOTION:

That the membership authorize the Executive Committee to move forward with a project to refurbish and modernize the existing platform lift, with the work commencing only when all funds required are raised through various means.

Thanks,

Wyn

Yours in comradeship,

Wyn Fournier, President, Royal Canadian Legion, Branch 632, Orléans
